Le Provençal Bistro's cuisine is characterized as Mediterranean,
French bistro food with a flair that lives up to French tradition.
Highlights are soft shell crab provencal, sautéed sea
scallops with chardonnay beurre blanc, veal chop with broccoli
rabe, pommes allumettes.
The charming dining room is tastefully decorated with butteryellow
walls, photographs of Provence, and artwork of the Provençal
artist Gerard Isirdi, ceramic vases filled with sunflowers,
wrought iron racks and mirrors.
Chef/owner Derrick Dikkers, a native of Amsterdam, the Netherlands,
served a five year apprenticeship in Provence at the famous
L'Oustau de Baumaniere in les Baux de Provence, Provence's most
visited village. And returns every year to stay with his father
and enjoys the smell/fragrants and the colors on the local markets
and restaurant. He studied at the hotel school in Switzerland,
worked in the famed Maxim's in Paris and Singapore and later
headed the Bel Age Hotel in Los Angeles and the Doral Hotel
restaurants in New York City. He kept coming back, however,
to the cuisine of the place he loved and decided to open his
own restaurant in Mamaroneck, Westchester, in October 1996.
This is very much a family-operation. Next to chef Derrick Dikkers,
his wife Mieke runs the dining room with a professional hand.
