From famous beginnings…
Chef/owner Derrick Dikkers, a native of Amsterdam, perfected his mastery of French cuisine during the five years he spent in Provence working at the famous L'Oustau de Baumanière in Les Baux de Provence, Provence's most famous village. He has returned regularly to enjoy the smells, fragrances and the colors in the local markets and restaurants.
He studied at the hotel school in Switzerland, worked in the famed Maxim's in Paris and Singapore and later headed the Bel Age Hotel in Los Angeles and the Doral Hotel restaurants in New York City.
Over the years, he has added an international mix, chosen from the world's best cuisines to complement the Mediterranean flavors.
Serving Westchester for 20 years...
He kept coming back, however, to the cuisine of the place he loved and decided to open his own restaurant in Mamaroneck, Westchester. That restaurant, now in its 21st year, has become a celebrated fixture in Westchester, enjoying the highest reputation, outstanding reviews and a loyal clientele that keeps coming back.
This is very much a family-run operation. Next to chef Derrick Dikkers, his wife Mieke runs the dining room with a professional hand. A favorite place for Sunday brunch, Provençal Bistro is also a wildly popular venue for private parties - bridal showers, baby showers and other special occasions. The prix-fixe lunch is also popular with business clients. There is a constantly changing offering of seasonal specials, as well as one-off occasions such as New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving and Valentine's day.
